Ear surgery

Sutureless Tympanoplasty

  • Recurrent ear infections or injury due to Trauma can lead to permanent perforation in the Ear drum
  • Tympanoplasty involves surgical repair of perforated ear drum with or without reconstruction of middle ear bones (ossiculoplasty).
  • It can be performed using an endoscope or microscope.
  • d.Sutureless tympanoplasty is a procedure in which the ear drum repair is done through the natural ear canal, so it does not require any sutures at the end of the procedure thus offering a better cosmetic result.

Myringotomy

  • A myringotomy is a procedure to create a hole in the ear drum to allow fluid that is trapped in the middle ear to drain out.
  • The fluid may be blood, pus and/or water.
  • In many cases, a small tube is inserted into the hole in the ear drum to help maintain drainage.

Ossiculoplasty

  • In some patients hearing is decreased due to problems related to the 3 small bones behind the ear drum (Malleus, Incus and Stapes).
  • Ossiculoplasty is the procedure which corrects the hearing loss by repairing or replacing the chain of the 3 small bones.
  • Implants are used in the procedure which may be synthetic or from the body tissue of the patient himself.

Mastoidectomy

  • Mastoid bone is a part of skull which is situated behind the ear. It can often get affected by certain disease processes like Cholesteatoma or Infections.
  • Mastoidectomy involves eradication of the disease in the mastoid air cells and the adjacent parts of the ear.
  •
  • The aim of the surgery is to make the ear safe from complications related to the disease processes.

Stapedectomy

  • Stapes is the smallest bone of the body and the last of the 3 small bones behind the ear drum.
  • It is often affected by a disease called as otosclerosis which causes fixation of the bone and hearing loss.
  • In Stapedectomy we remove whole or part of the fixed bone and replace it with an implant called as the Piston and thus restoring the patients hearing.

Auroplasty

  • The ear lobe can get split or torn due to trauma or using heavy earrings over a long period of time.
  • Auroplasty is the cosmetic repair of the Split ear lobe
  • It is a simple procedure that can be done in the clinic, on out-patient basis and can be finished well within an hour.
